Tony winner Ron Silver dead at 62
Tony award winning actor and political activist Ron Silver has died of esophageal cancer at the age of 62. Silver who won his Tony for his work in the Broadway play Speed The Plow died quietly at home in his sleep surrounded by his family.
Silver had been a long time and vocal Democrat but after the attacks of 9-11 began supporting President George Bush and spoke at the Republican National Convention in New York City although he was a registered Independent supporting a re-election of President Bush.
He later said that his support of President Bush cost him numerous jobs in the very liberal Hollywood work environment.
Besides his Tony winning role in Speed the Plow,Silver was also nominated for an Emmy in the movie thriller Billionaire Boys Club. His most recent work was on the NBC show West Wing and also on episodes of Crossing Jordan and Law and Order.
