Grand Ole Opry night on American Idol

Published by wv918 at 10:31 am under Music, Television Edit This

Last night on American Idol there were several new Idol hopefuls that stepped up their performances on Grand Ole Opry night.

That was surprising because you really wouldn’t consider any of the contestants country singer. Michael Sarver maybe, and I thought he was one of the ones who didn’t do so good. He sang Garth Brooks “Ain’t Going Down Till the Sun Comes Up” and it was to much of a fast paced song for him to be singing. I agreed with Simon when he said he couldn’t understand a word of it.

I thought Lil Rounds version of Martina McBride’s “Independence Day” was good but it just seemed odd coming from her after hearing her in past weeks with her R& B sound that everybody has gotten used to.

Alexis Grace sang Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” and her biggest problem I think was she was trying to sound to much like Dolly and some of her high notes just wasn’t there for her last night.

Megan Corkrey did the oldest tune of the night when she sang Patsy Cline’s “Walking After Midnight”. She did a good job considering she had the flu which I think helped tone down stage antics of last week.

I loved Anoop Desai singing Willie Nelson’s “Aways on my Mind”, to me he seemed to be the best of the night. Quite a turn around from his mess of a performance he delivered last week.

Adam Lambert should be ashamed of himself for his version of Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire”, Simon was right calling it utter indulgent rubbish. Yeah we know your weird with your black nail polish and whatever the hell your hair color is but its no reason to butcher a song like that.

Kris Allen was another Idol hopeful who had a good night. His version of Garth Brooks version of Bob Dylan’s “To Make You Feel my Love” was very well done and all four judges loved it.

The best female of the night was Allison Iraheta who did Patty Loveless’s “Blame it On Your Heart”. She surprised me in how much of a country flavor she put into the song. She also impressed the judges with it as all four of them were praising her effort.

All the judges seemed to be worried about Scott MacIntyre’s stage personality or lack of it I guess you could say. He sang “Wild Angels” by Martina Mcbride and I thought it was really good. The judges worry about his stage personality because he cant get up and dance around because of his blindness. I hope he stays around for a few more weeks though.

Everybody loved Danny Gokey’s version of Carrie Underwood’s “Jesus Take the Wheel”. They loved it so much that all they had to pick on him about was his snow white jacket that had more zippers on it than an old lady’s purse.

If you go by what the judges say Matt Giraud was the best of the night with his version of Carrie Underwood’s “So Small”. Simon even said he out sand Danny Gokey, although I don’t agree with that. Giraud sang really well but in my opinion he was no better than Gokey or Anoop Desai or Kris Allen.

Going home tonight I think will be Michael Sarver which is kind of ironic because it was country theme night and I always thought he was the one most likely to be a country singer.
